What is duplicate gene

For most genes in eukaryote genomes, you can find at least one relatives with some levels of sequence similarities. Their relationships suggest that, in most cases, they were derived from gene duplication events.

How were they duplicated

Gene duplication can be resulted from any process that resulted in duplicating DNA sequences.

Whole genome duplication

Tandem duplication

Segmental duplication

Duplicative transposition
